ICBE-EMF reports: a new commentary by Ronald Melnick, Joel Moskowitz, and Paul Héroux in the journal Environmental Health finds that 2026 Japanese and Korean "validation" studies were too underpowered and narrowly designed to confirm or refute the U.S. National Toxicology Program's finding that cell phone radiofrequency radiation causes cancer in rats. The authors identify reduced statistical power, a single exposure dose, and heavy involvement of ICNIRP-linked advisors in the follow-up studies.
They note the Korean study still found a heart schwannoma rate matching the NTP's own results despite being underpowered, and conclude the NTP's original "clear evidence" finding stands. ICBE-EMF calls on regulators to base exposure limits on the strongest available evidence rather than on the flawed follow-up studies.
