The Federal Communications Commission will vote in August on a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to open more than 225 megahertz of unlicensed spectrum to direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity, potentially letting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, medical imaging devices, wireless microphones and IoT sensors work through next-generation satellite constellations. Chairman Brendan Carr called the combination a potential "game changer" for the D2D sector.
