Spanish villagers oppose 40-metre American Tower mast planned 150 metres from their homes
AVAATE, a Spanish citizens' association of people affected by telecoms antennas, relays a report by Segovia staff reporter Carlos Álvaro in El Norte de Castilla, the main regional daily for Castile and León: residents of Las Casas Altas, a small hamlet inside the municipality of Ventosilla y Tejadilla (Segovia province, Castile and León, Spain), oppose a 40-metre mast proposed 150 metres from their homes. The tower would be built by American Tower, a US-based multinational that owns and leases mobile-tower sites worldwide. The neighbours' association of the municipality has asked the local council and the regional government to halt the project and find an alternative site, arguing the tower would sit inside the Sabinares de Somosierra Special Conservation Zone with no siting study carried out. Residents also cite EMF concerns, noting Spain's limits still rest on a 2001 Royal Decree, and that a review commission mandated by the 2014 and 2022 telecoms laws has never been convened despite repeated Ombudsman calls.
