πΊπΈ Grassroots Opposition Sinks Bill to Limit Local Control Over Cell Towers
Children's Health Defense reports: Federal lawmakers delayed voting on H.R. 2289, the American Broadband Deployment Act, which would have stripped local governments of authority to reject cell tower installations near homes, schools and parks. The bill included language stating local governments 'may not deny, and shall approve' applications for most cell towers. After opposition from health freedom advocates and local governments, the House Rules Committee postponed the vote.
"We firmly believe that communities, not bureaucrats at the FCC and the telecom industry, should decide where cell towers are placed in our neighborhoods. [...] This bill would have stripped away all remaining community rights to fight unwanted cell towers, on top of an already restrictive federal framework."
β Miriam Eckenfels, director of CHD's Electromagnetic Radiation & Wireless Program
"H.R. 2289 would accelerate buildout under guidelines a federal court has already found inadequately justified."
β Tony Lyons, president of MAHA Action, in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson
